Pitt Lake Tour (Base Tour)

Eco Tours vancouver

The Reel Dreamer

All Vancouver Eco Tours start at Grant Narrows Regional Park and takes visitors past the protected Pitt Polder ecological reserve, which includes extensive migratory waterfowl habitat. Here you can view ospreys nesting and visitors have a chance to see the famous dyke system from the lake side. The Reel Dreamer transports guests across the second-largest lake in the Lower Mainland in comfort and it is a great way to safely tour a large body of water that is notorious for its frequent winds. Pitt Lake is about 25 km long and about 4.5 km wide and it lies just a few kms upstream from the Pitt River’s confluence with the Fraser. At high tide in the Strait of Georgia water backs up all the way to the Pitt and it is not unusual to see seals or even sea lions in the lake when the salmon are running.

Surrounded by three Provincial Parks the lake is popular with boaters and canoeists, but is prone to sudden wind gusts, heavy rains and big waves. But don’t worry, you’ll be safe in the hands of the skipper who grew up on these waters and comes from a commercial fishing family.

The upper Pitt River valley is a typical U-shaped glacial valley in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. At the north end of the lake there is a relic from days gone by an old steam donkey used when logging was acceptable on the lake. As you approach the head of the lake you will be greeted by seals who occupy the log booms year round, feeding on the migratory fish that return to the the Upper Pitt River which is considered one of BC’s best fly-fishing rivers

Pitt Lake Tour (Base Tour) – 4 hours  $700 + tax based on 4 people. Package includes lunch and snacks

Pitt River Valley Wilderness Tour (Add on to Pitt Lake Tour)

The tour continues by truck as your group and guide embark on a journey through our rainforest valley. We receive a fair amount of rain – approximately 8 feet a year! –  so it is a green, lush landscape.

From the dock at the north end of Pitt Lake we will drive through the old town site of Alvin, now an active logging camp with a short stop at Corbold Creek which is a major Sockeye salmon rearing stream that feed the Pitt River. From here we continue the trip north on the road where you will have to keep your eyes peeled for black bears, Roosevelt Elk, black tail deer, eagles and all sorts of ducks and wildlife.

The next stop is the Hot Springs Bridge were you get a great view of the Pitt River and the second canyon about 21 kilometers above the lake head.

The tour moves on driving further north to the end of the road about 25 kilometers from the lake head. Here we will take a short walk to the Blue Creek bridge to look over creek where it runs into the Pitt River. From here you can see the southern most boundary of Garibaldi Provincial Park.

Pitt River Valley Wilderness Tour (Add on to Pitt Lake Tour) – 4 hours- additional $150 per group of 4 people. Package includes lunch and snacks

Pitt River Raft Tour

Rating

A rafting adventure begins

Eco-Rafting is a combination of ecological interpretation and a scenic wilderness river drift through the unique coastal habitat here, accompanied by a skilled river guide.

Trips range from 3 to 5 hours, making it a perfect afternoon or morning excursion. Longer eco-adventures are available and all trips include lunch. This is not a whitewater thrill ride, but a nature drift with only a few stretches of fast water. It is a wonderful way to see wildlife and to take photographs.

Eco-rafting trips focus on various natural habitat and topics, depending on the season and ecosystem activity at that time. You can expect to see a variety of British Columbia wildlife and fish, as well as being able to ask your guides questions about the coastal region and the temperate rain forests of Western Canada.

Pitt River Raft Tour  –  Includes a shorter Pitt  Lake and Wilderness Valley tour- $789 + tax  per group- 1-4 persons. Package includes lunch and snacks
